Description K6 In the ProAc K6 loudspeaker, the combination of research into carbon fibre and its ingredients have produced a stunningly accurate and detailed sound, having an electrostatic or panel quality without the drawbacks. Sound is reproduced effortlessly with incredible detail and pinpoint imagery, which often can be muddled by conventional drive units. The legendary ProAc qualities of large soundstaging and pin-sharp imaging capabilities complete a highly musical and engaging transducer. Kevlar Benefits Kevlar benefits from having similar properties to carbon fibre, being light and at the same time rigid. The 6.5" drivers in the ProAc K6 feature Kevlar cones, made by the same special method as in ProAc carbon fibre coned drive units. Each cone is painstakingly produced from a mould – by hand – a labour-intensive process taking many hours to complete. Bass Porting Although Kevlar has proven to be an excellent cone material sonically, the Kevlar ProAc bass drivers require a different porting mechanism in order to realise their full potential. The bass is loaded by an almost invisible vent, producing a wonderfully weighty but exceptionally fast bass response. Midrange & High-Frequency These drivers are seamlessly crossed over to a 2" dome midrange, the horn of which is manufactured from billet aluminium. For the high frequencies, ProAc have chosen their well-proven ribbon tweeter. Cabinets The ProAc K6 cabinets are a traditional mixture of various thickness HDF, heavily damped with bitumen, up to 35 mm thick in key places. The ProAc K Series range of speakers are so-called because Kevlar is used in the construction of their drive units. So far ProAc have only used Kevlar and Carbon Fibre for the reproduction of bass and lower midrange in large enclosures. K series cones have a light, stiff quality, and the Kevlar has more warmth, thus making excellent bass transients and extension. Finish K6 is shown above in Cherry veneer finish.
