In a class-AB amplifier, the conduction angle is intermediate between class A and class B. Each one of the two active elements conducts more than half of the time. Class AB is widely considered a good compromise for amplifiers, since much of the time the music signal is quiet enough that the signal stays in the class-A region, where it is amplified with good fidelity. If passing out of this region, the signal is then large enough that the distortion products typical of class B are relatively small. The crossover distortion can be reduced further by using negative feedback.
